SAINT VALENTINE

JADE VINE - RESEMBLING CHANDELIERS FROM ANOTHER WORLD
Away for eighteen days visiting my family in San Francisco and Honolulu,  I have been spending many hours at my desk catching up with PEACEAnimals work.  I did take a few hours to take a friend visiting from Buenos Aires to the gorgeous botanical gardens.  Leaving sea level and about a forty minute drive south of Vallarta and just past Las Juntas y Los Veranos,  the air is cooler in the foothills of the Sierra Madres.  Below the bougainvillea-adorned building that houses a nice boutique and restaurant/bar, a river rushes over grey rocks down to the bay.  The gardens continue to expand and a lovely collection of orchids and other plants are available for purchase.

NICE PLUG FOR VACATION VOLUNTEERING IN THE OREGONIAN:

RESCUED AND NEED HOMES:  “Daisy aka Cheeta.” MOTHER & BABYS.jpg Shannon Beston brought her down from a tree with her four newly born kittens.  A couple had fallen out of the tree and landed on a parked car.  The mama was high up on a bough so a ladder has to be used to retrieve the family.  Please help with a foster home.  Shannon´s hands are very full with rescue cats.  Contact:  shannon@besetonproperties.com

“Amelia,” a young female dog who suffered fractures to her leg approximately a month ago.  Because of this, her owners discarded her.  Found on the street,  an animal lover took her to Dr. Peña´s for tests and treatments.  Amelia was diagnosed with anaplasma and erlichia, which 90% of the street dogs in Vallarta have.  She is beginning to walk and is recovering at the home of her rescuer.  Amelia needs a permanent home.  Please contact me.
"AMELIA" DISCARDED AND RESCUED.  NEEDS HOME.

RESCUED:  “Lupita,” a senior citizen female mixed-breed  dogwhom Malke Sekey and her husband Steve Oseas had seen for a few years in the Marina when they visited Vallarta.  They had watched her deterioration, but had been unable to catch her.  Malka contacted Brischa Borchgrevink, PEACEAnimals board member, who went to Dr. Peña´s for sedatives.  After pills were crushed and mixed with water and chicken, Brischa met Malka and Steve at the Marina, where they soon found Lupita.  The mixture was put placed on the sidewalk, where the hungry dog gobbled it down.  Thirty minutes later, she was unable to stand up.
"LUPITA" WITH DR. PEÑA AFTER BEING RESCUED
Armando, the owner of Rock and Roll Diner, loaned the rescuers a table cloth to wrap around Amelia for a check-up with Dr. Peña.  Other nipping Brischa on the chin and being tested for disease, Lupita is being treated for a few minor health issuse and will live out the rest of her life with Brischa and her husband Ted.

NOTE:  Malka and Steve, who donated $1,500 USD for a clinic, suggested dog lovers ask local restaurants and shops, etc.  to put out water bowls in front of their place of business. There are thirsty  homeless dogs and owned dogs on many sidewalks and streets here.  Malka asked Rock and Roll Diner in the Marina if they would be willing to do this and the owner quickly agreed.  I made a request to Gabriela Rojas of Terán Rojas & Associates, the excellent accounting firm in the Marina with whom PEACEAnimals does business.  Gabriela sent back an immediate “yes.”   Water bowls in front of restaurants and shops in the U.S. are commonplace and create goodwill and build business.   Please ask the appropriate places to help.

NEED RESCUING:  Thousands of cats and dogs living on the streets and  dozens of cats and dogs at the Acopio, the no-kill pound.  The Centro de Acopio is open Monday-Saturday from 8 AM-2 PM.  Telephone number is 293-3690.  For shelters, and they are all full, please check PEACEAnimals website.  Website also contains information on recommended vets, adoptions, etc.
