EASTERN TIP OF THE ISLA CUALE AND WHERE THE RÍO CUALE SPLITS

RED BANANAS!

Thursday.  Morning of the Full Moon.  A burro brays.  Roosters crow.   A dove coos.  After waiting almost three years, our red banana tree is loaded with the sweet and oversized fruit and our mysteriously beautiful jade vine is in bloom again.
TRASH COLLECTING IN THE  RÍO CUALE

The Isla Cuale is shaded and cooler than the beach for dog walking.  Mangoes are ripening and some partially eaten by the few squirrels that remain on the island.  On the north side of the island, the river is completely dry.  On the south side, dogs and families sit or splash in the almost lukewarm, quiet water.  Upstream,  fallen branches of the weeping willow trees collect trash.
SOUTH SIDE OF THE ISLA CUALE

This week´s clinic took place in  the pleasant and clean middle-class colonia of las Auralias,  in a bodega across the street from a green, leafy park.
VOLUNTEER REMOVING TICKS WITH TWEEZERS IN POST-OP
"KEVIN" BEFORE BEING NEUTERED AT LAS ARALIAS CLINIC
Pet owners arrived with cats and dogs from many of the surrounding colonias many of whom were waiting in line before the clinic opened.   A dog trainer who is taking care of “Kevin,” the emaciated and abused Pit Bull, brought him in to be neutered.  Though still thin, Kevin looks strong and sweet and will be for adoption. Volunteers registered pets, monitored vital signs post-surgery, picked off loads of ticks with tweezers and dropped them in a glass filled with alcohol, and helped with clean-up.
