WALK ON THE MALECÓN

 A WALK ON THE MALECÓN

LOS ARCOS

A few decades ago, the ejidos (communal landowners) voted to sell their ocean front property in Punta de Mita, Nayarit to the government. There apparently wasn´t much choice for the ejidos.
PUNTA DE MITA
The government in turn sold this beautiful area to developers.   The ejidos and fishermen left their beach shacks, many of whom moved to inexpensive housing created by the government in Corral del Risco, which is part of Punta de Mita. A 2010 census lists 2,304 inhabitants for Corral del Risco.  Looking up from the beaches, Punta de Mita, with its five-star hotels, expensive villas and condos and lush golf course,  one can also see Corral del Risco, a poor, dusty little town.  It is an example of what exists in many parts of the world - poverty next to privilege.

STERILIZATIONS:  Corral de Risco, Nayarit - January 7-10

Female dogs: 24    Male dogs:  15    Female cats: 20   Male cats; 12

TOTAL:  71

(Numbers lower than usual because this town is very small and there is a high resistance to spay/neuter.  Although Dr. Poli was the only vet operating this week, no pet owner was turned away).

DONATIONS AT CLINIC:

They made a decision to come to Puerto Vallarta and volunteered long hours every day at the Corral de Risco clinics.  They will also be at the Floresta clinic.

ADOPTIONS:  "Nena," whom I met at our clinic in el Pitillal.  After three foster homes, this extremely sweet and now beautiful young dog is flying to her new home in Vancouver,  thanks to Mexpup.

RESCUED AND NEEDS HOME:  Vicky Boyd saw an emaciated white male dog in front of a church in the small town of San Jose, Nayarit.  Vicky immediately gave him water and then  took him to Wolf Veterinaria on New Year´s Day.  She named him "Feliano" ("Feliz Año"). Covered in lice and suffering from malnutrition and erlichia,
"FELIANO" RESCATADO Y NECESITA HOGAR
Feliano will stay at Wolf´s for two weeks while he recovers.  Vicky is paying all vet bills, but needs to find a home for this year-and-a-half old dog as soon as possible.  Contact:  vboyd@visa.com

"MONA" AND DUSTIN
"MONA" AT TIME OF RESCUE
"MONA" NOW.  NECESITA HOGAR.
"Mona," the 18-month old female Pit Bull mix I found on the highway in Mismaloya.  I met Dustin and Mona,  her primary caregiver at LADRA, at los arcos on the malecón for a walk on the beach this week.
Mona looks great.  She has filled out, her mange has almost all disappeared and she looks very happy, strong and confident. Mona runs enthusiastically into the water to chase thrown rocks and bobbing pelicans.  Dustin said she is now fine with other dogs (growls at alpha female Pitties) and pays no attention to cats when being walked on the Isla Cuale.    Mona is a great dog - obedient, athletic, affectionate and good looking.  If you would like to meet her, please contact LADRA via FB.

Open Monday-Saturday from 8 AM-2 PM.  293-3690. The Acopio is holding adoptions every Saturday from 11 AM-2 PM at Plaza Caracól (back end of building near McDonald´s entrance) and Macro Plaza.
