BEAUTY

After two days of rain ranging from drizzles to downpours, Tuesday and Wednesday were the bluest of balmy, blue days.
REAL DEL MAR,  JUST OUTSIDE LA CRUZ, NAYARIT
At dawn on Wednesday, the white full moon was veiled with lacy, pale pink clouds in a baby blue sky.  Breathtakingly beautiful.  Driving to colonia las Cañadas an hour later, I was in a part of Vallarta I had never seen before.  Northeast and high up in the hills, I followed a windy, narrow road that switched back and forth from cobblestone to dirt.  I passed palm trees, banana trees, overgrown magenta bougainvillea vines , rancheros wearing levis and wide-brimmed hats inspecting their horses and cattle, an elegant hacienda, and a luxe golf course.

CLÍNICA EN LAS CAÑADAS
The clinic in las Cañadas took place in an unfinished cinder block house or perhaps store.  PEACE had a clinic in the same space five years ago and it looks exactly the same.  When I arrived at 8:30, there was already a line of people waiting with their pets.  An attractive man in his 30´s arrived on a motorcycle with a tiny 4-6 week-old Chihuahua mix.  He said he had bought her from a vet in Nayarit for 900 pesos and that the puppy was very sick. We cannot provide tests or vaccines, so all we could do was advise that he take the puppy back to the vet to be tested for parvo and parasites.  The puppy was very beautiful, but too young to have been taken away from its mother.
CACHORRITA ENFERMA QUE COMPRÓ DE UN VETERINARIO EN NAYARIT
The vets I know give rescue dogs and cats away.  They don´t sell them.  We suggested he go to the Acopio for a healthy puppy and pay the 130 peso donation.

I saw a pregnant black dog on the dirt road close to the clinic and asked where the owner was.  He appeared with his wife and strawberry blonde young daughter.
DUEÑOS DE LA PERRITA NEGRA IN LAS CAÑADAS
He wanted to have one of the babies of his dog.  After telling him that there were puppies everywhere, he agreed to bring his dog back the following morning.  As the clinic was full, it was fortunate that upon inspection, the little brown senior citizen dog named "Lucky" had already been spayed.  This made a spot for the black dog, whose pregnancy was terminated.   She was the luckiest dog of the day.

After the clinic,  I went to my favorite place for lunch- "Paraiso Moro."
PARAISO MORO EN PASO ANCHO
With its bougainvillea-adorned wooden fence entrance, it is a simple spot in Paso Ancho next to the río Cuale.  Horses are often tethered next the restaurant while their riders take a break.
RÍO CUALE EN PASO ANCHO

Yellow butterflies flutter by and there is almost always the squawk of green parrots in the nearby jungle.

A saw a different kind of beauty in a photograph a friend posted on FB.  It was of path covered in deep snow.  The boughs of the pine trees were heavy with snow and the sky was pale white.  There is a feeling of innocence in the silence of snow. It is in great contrast to the news stories of the viciousness of humans in so many parts of the world.

"NENA" RESCATADA Y YA LLEVANDO UN ABRIGO EN SU NUEVO HOGAR EN COLOMBIA BRITÁNICA
"Nena," the homeless Pit Bull mix brought to a PEACEAnimals clinic in Pitillal for spaying.  Grateful for food and water, she was too emaciated and too anemic for surgery.  Foster homes were found for her in Vallarta while she recovered her health.  Sweet Nena is now living a great life in British Columbia with a wonderful family and three other dogs. Karyn Green, who fostered Nena for six weeks, sent these photos.
"NENA"

A very thin female Weimaraner.  I saw a woman I know on the Isla Cuale Monday afternoon while walking our dogs.  She said she was looking for a beige female Weimaraner and little black male dog.  They had apparently been roaming the area for for 6-8 weeks and she wanted to get them sterilized and then back to colonia el Caloso.  Driving home, I saw the two dogs eating garbage on calle Miramar.
WEIMARANER RESCATADA Y ADOPTADA.  EL MEZCLA DOBIE NECESITA HOGAR
As my three dogs were in the car, I asked them to get out, lifted the two street dogs into my car and slowly drove the three quiet residential blocks to my home with my dogs following us.  The Weimar and Dobie had dinner and then spent a very quiet full moon night in our bodega.  Surprisingly, there were no messes to clean up the next morning.  Tuesday morning, Esau Bello,  my Spanish tutor and popular gardener, saw the dogs and called his girlfriend.  Zena Rosas,  who had once owned a male Weimar, came immediately and quickly decided to adopt her.  I took both dogs to the PEACAnimals clinic in Floresta on Wednesday for sterilization.  After we returned home, the little Dobie-mix
got out of the car and trotted up the stairs from the garage to the garden.  As the Weimar was still sedated, I left her in the car with doors open  so she could get out when she woke up.  Minutes later I didn´t see the little black dog anymore in the garden. I walked down to the garage and found him curled up in the car next to his girlfriend.

IN FOSTER CARE AND NEEDS PERMANENT HOME:  Mateo Jorge saw the SOS for a foster home on FB and walked over to my home Thursday evening to collect this great little dog.  "Rocco" is housebroken, neutered, vaccinated, smart, playful and affectionate.
