MAGNIFICENT MANGOS

Young teen-age boys enthusiastically throw rocks up into the mango trees on the isla Cuale and are occasionally successful in knocking down some fruit.  Fathers with their families use long bamboo poles to bring it down.  Squirrels nibble on the ripe fruit, which then falls on the ground and provides bees with something sweet.   At the Biblioteca los Mangos, where there is not much of a squirrel population, the fragrant fruit falls down onto the grass when ripe and is quickly collected.  It is time of the mangos here in Mexico.   We see it being used for chutney, soup, pickles,  pies, yoghurt, ice cream,  salads, juices, smoothies, aguas frescas, tucked into cheese quesadillas and best of all -  alone in mango magnificence.
ARBOL DE MANGO EN LA ISLA CUALE

The first recordings of mangos date back to 4,000 B.C. in the writings of monks in India and Southeast Asia.  The fragrant fruit arrived in Mexico via the Philippines in the 17th century.  Providing the required tropical or semi-tropical environment, Mexico is now the number one exporter of mangos in the world.
ARBOL DE MANGO EN CENTRO
India is the number one producer of mangos and in part because its 1.3 billion population consumes almost all of its mangos, this fruit has the top spot for the most eaten fruit in the world.

Palmar de Aramara is a quiet, clean colonia just a few blocks southeast of Walmart and Sam´s club.  It has a large, green park a couple of blocks away from the home of Candace Shaw, who generously donated her home as a location for this clinic.  It was in the pretty park that her beautiful Weimar, "Sterling," was poisoned several months ago.
PALMAR DE ARAMARA

On Wednesday, which is usually our slowest day, 31 animals were spayed and neutered at the Palmar de Aramara.  When I arrived at the clinic a little after nine on Thursday morning, 38 cats and dogs had already been registered.
PALMER DE ARAMARA
A young man came with his two Xolos, a 7-year old female and a 4-year old male. After a few years of breeding them, he can no longer keep his pets.   Please contact Candace Shaw via FB if interested. Almendra brought in some kittens from Puro Gato for sterilization, and immediately adopted the young Russian Blue male cat that Shannon Beston had brought in from the isla Cuale.  Mateo Jorge arrived with pretty little "Pickles,"
"PICKLES" DESPUÉS DE CIRUGÍA - PARA ADOPCIÓN
whom he had rescued a few weeks ago from the street.  She´s about 10 weeks old and available for adoption.  Contact Mateo Jorge by FB.

On Friday, Dr. Javier Santana, who is the new vet at Colina clinic (free spay/neuter), volunteered his services.  Forty-one cats and dogs were sterilize that day, which may be a record for the PEACEAnimals clinics.

MISCELLANEOUS DONATIONS:   Sandra and Arthur Hildebrand from Edmonton, Canada - 500 pesos for cat food.  We met as they were bringing water and I was bringing cat food to two cats living in an abandoned house on calle Aldama at Matamoros in Centro. The black female and the tabby male, both sterilized, are great cats.  They need a home.  The third cat is a small black and white one and I have heard the cries of kittens inside the house.  Please contact me if you can give one or both of the very tame cats a good home.

ADOPTIONS:  A young male Russian Blue cat Shannon Beston found on the isla Cuale and brought to the clinic on Thursday.  Alemendra of Puro Gato took him home with her.

"Solo Vino" (which can mean either "only wine" or "came alone") came alone to Robbin Richardson´s doorstep in centro.  The little black male Terrier or Schnauzer mix flew home with Robbin to North Carolina on May 13th, two days before the heat embargo was put in place by the airlines.  No more pets flying in cargo until November.

"Oso," a sweet five-month old male puppy covered in mange.  Brischa and Ted Borchgrevink, owners of LADRA boarding/refuge and on the advisory board of PEACEAnimals,
"OSO," UN CACHORRO CON SARNA - RESCATADO Y ADOPTADO
found him wandering the street in colonia Buenos Aires.  They paid for his meds and found a loving home for Oso in their neighborhood.

Dogs at the Centro de Acopio are only walked twice a week by volunteers organized by Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals.
