After two-and-a-half weeks in northern California and the beauty of vineyards, mountains, redwoods, pine trees and fields of lavander, I returned home to México. On Monday afternoon, the plane flew down through a dense cloud cover over Puerto Vallarta. The Alaska Airlines flight attendant announced that the temperature was 90 degrees and to expect "some humidity." Bracing for a blast of steamy air when I disembarked, the air felt dense, but not oppressive. When the rains stop, the sky will become a wet, grey blanket with no movement of air underneath it. I celebrated my return by ordering a pistachio ice cream cone at 31 Flavors and then eating it on a wooden bench on the malecón next to my husband as we watched the large orange sun send a last golden glow over beautiful Banderas Bay before it disappeared.

ISLA CUALE: The security guard on the island told animal advocate and rescuer, Shannon Beston, that people were lined up at 6 AM with their pets. Soraya and Almendra, owners of Puro Gato (cat rescue and adoption) brought five cats they had trapped on the island the night before, one of which was pregnant. A weathered ranchero arrived in a bashed-up truck with his six dogs and waited for several hours to take them home. Colette Zarry, owner of Colina clinic (free spay/neuter on Saturdays) and Langostinos restaurant agreed to foster a dog that had been rescued from starvation, nursed back to health. brought to the clinic to be spayed. .

COLONIA LÓPEZ is situated across from the tunnel road (libramiento) and very close to la Cruz Roja (Red Cross). We have visited this colonia a few times in the past and it is always a busy one. Shannon Beston reported that on one of the clinic days, several pet owners had to be turned away.

Feria Nacional Durango, edicion 2016 decidió lo siguiente:
•No habrán peleas de gallos, ni se contará con espectáculos de animales durante la edición 2016 de la Feria Nacional de Durango, por lo tanto ya no habrá presentaciones de Delfines y el recinto comúnmente denominado “Delfinario” será reemplazado por “Fuentilandia” un espacio donde las fuentes ofrecerán un espectáculo de aguas danzantes. Siguiendo en la línea de protección animal, no habrá más espectáculos que cuenten con monos o serpientes.
